Duane Lake Academy's History
Duane Lake Academy (DLA) was founded in 1983 on Duane Lake in Duanesburg, NY. From its inception, an underlying principle has been that all students have great potential and through an individually tailored educational program and with the involvement of the family, each child can be helped to achieve a remarkable sense of self and personal success.
Overarching Philosophical Statement
Duane Lake Academy is committed to an educational philosophy of self-development, personal management, intellectual excellence, high moral character and values which provides students the ability to enter the larger community as responsible, purposeful, productive citizens capable of personal achievement, cultural contributions, and effective participation in a society.
Duane Lake Academy is a registered NY non-public school with a Regents Charter. We are a K-12 private academy that is progressive and affordable. This academy also supports distance learners, and utilizes various online resources along with online teacher support. This rich education is provided with the safe, stable home environment, while integrating parents as part of this all important process. This structure allows students to progress at their own pace, which is especially well suited for gifted, talented and self-motivated students. Graduates are well prepared to enter trade & vocational schools, college or the workforce.
Under the Duane Lake Academy structure, parents have the role of being an educational coach for their child/children. Although the parent’s involvement is a critical element with their child’s educational progress, parents are by no means left on their own to teach their children. Our academy provides the curriculum, the educational tools and resources, teacher support, and career guidance.
